Gyanecololgy & Obstetrics

[Headed By: Pratima Gupta]

Nearly every woman will suffer from a gynaecological problem at some time in her life. It may not be life threatening, and may only affect them at certain times of the month, but it can still have an impact on their quality of life and ability to do everyday things.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology are the two surgical specialties dealing with the female reproductive organs, and as such are often combined to form a single medical specialty and postgraduate training program. This combined training prepares the practicing OB/GYN to be adept at the surgical management of the entire scope of clinical pathology involving female reproductive organs, and to provide care for both pregnant and non-pregnant patients.

Obstetrics and gynaecology, includes women's reproductive health and pre-natal care, as well as labour and delivery. A physician who practices in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology is called an OB/GYN. These physicians often practice a mix of obstetrics and gynaecology, but some may specialize more heavily in one area over the other.
